Apartment damage liability question...?

The fact that it was the shower head that caused the problem makes it structural (ie: part of the apartment) and therefore the responsibility of the landlord. It's not like you had a water bed that leaked and caused the damage. It would have been better if you had told them of the problem when you moved in. Keep an eye on the floor in your bathroom to make sure it does not start to sag.
