Should my daughter pay rent to her boyfriend landlady, she stays there at weekends?

the boyfriend works in the cafe the ladylady owns and rents a flat upstairs. my daughter is 18 at collage and only stays there roughly 2 nights a week but he has been told by his landlady she now has to pay rent.
